The Origin of the VIA Strengths Survey
The VIA Character Strengths Survey is a cornerstone of positive psychology, a field founded by Dr. Martin Seligman to study what makes life worth living. While traditional psychology often focuses on problems, positive psychology explores what helps people thrive.
Through their research, Dr. Seligman and Dr. Christopher Peterson identified six universal virtues—wisdom, courage, humanity, justice, temperance, and transcendence—along with 24 character strengths.
